Marc J. Rosenberg, Ph.D.

Dr. Marc J. Rosenberg is an independent New Jersey, U.S.A.-based management consultant, writer, speaker, educator, and leading figure in the world of training, organizational learning, e-learning, knowledge management and performance improvement.  Marc's expertise extends across all of the emerging fields of e-learning strategy, knowledge management, performance support technologies, change management, as well as instructional design, performance improvement and evaluation.  He is also focusing on the future of the field, including "learning 2.0" and "web 2.0" strategies.  His clients include major U.S. and international corporations, professional associations and trade groups across multiple industries, including telecommunications, energy, technology, insurance, manufacturing, health care and financial services/securities, among others.


Dr. Rosenberg, a veteran of more than 30 years in the field of organizational learning, has an international reputation as a leading advocate and expert on using integrated performance improvement systems to enhance individual and organizational effectiveness.  He was a pioneer in the development of electronic performance support systems (EPSS).  His career includes three years on the College of Education faculty at Southern Illinois University, and 18 years in management positions at AT&T where he developed the company's education and training strategy, and directed major corporate initiatives in learning technology, performance management, and training reengineering.  Marc also served as the e-learning and knowledge management field leader for Diamond Management and Technology Consultants.


Dr. Rosenberg is the author of the best-selling book, E-Learning: Strategies for Delivering Knowledge in the Digital Age (McGraw-Hill).  His second book is, Beyond E-Learning: Approaches and Technologies to Enhance Organizational Knowledge, Learning and Performance (Pfeiffer).  His column, Marc My Words, appears monthly in the eLearning Guild's Learning Solutions online magazine and distributed to more than 25,000 professionals worldwide.


A highly regarded thought leader and much-sought-after presenter, Dr. Rosenberg has spoken at The White House, keynoted at numerous professional and business conferences, and has debated e-learning at the world famous Oxford Union in England.  He has authored more than 50 articles and book chapters, and is a frequently quoted expert in major business and trade publications, including HR Magazine, Human Resource Executive, Investor's Business Daily, Knowledge Management Magazine, Training, Training and Development, Performance and Instruction, E-Learning, Online Learning, Learning Circuits, Context, Fast Company, Sales and Marketing Management, The Chronicle of Higher Education, CFO Magazine, and various online publications.  Marc has also been featured on CIO Radio (a service of CIO Magazine).  He is a past president of the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI); a founding editorial board member of Performance Improvement Quarterly; co-editor of ISPI's Performance Technology: Success Stories, and a contributing author to the Handbook of Human Performance Technology, as well as the American Society for Training and Development's (ASTD) Handbook for Workplace Learning Professionals (2008), Models for Human Performance Improvement, and the 2002 ASTD E-Learning Handbook.  Academic presentations include The Oxford Union at Oxford University (England), Columbia University, the Darden Business School (University of Virginia), Farleigh Dickinson University, Florida State University, San Diego State University and the University of Calgary (Canada).  International presentations include Britain, Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Canada, Mexico, Malaysia and Brazil.  Dr. Rosenberg serves on the advisory board for The eLearning Guild, and is the subject matter expert and lead facilitator for ASTD's "Managing Organizational Knowledge" certificate program.


Dr. Rosenberg holds a Ph.D. in instructional design, plus degrees in communications and marketing.  He holds the Certified Performance Technologist (CPT) designation from ISPI, reflective of his experience and expertise in the field of organizational performance improvement.  He is also an elected member of his local community's Board of Education, responsible for the education of more than 7,500 children in grades K-12.
