What you need to know to make a speaking engagement a success.

Presentation Logistics and other Information

Most presentations can be delivered via the web, using many of the top commercial webcasting tools.

  1. Content – Each presentation is original content.  However about 20-25% of the concepts and about 15-20% of the slides are included in more than one presentation.  Although some of the content are from my books, much of each presentation is new, expanded information.  While the presentations are not industry specific, I work with clients to identify topics and include examples that are relevant to the audience.
  2. Style -- My speaking style is informal and energetic, reflecting the passion I have for learning.  I rarely use a podium or a prepared text, but often use animated, content-rich PowerPoint slides to enhance key points.  Presentations are highlighted with humor and story-telling, and I do my best to relate to the business and roles of the audience.  I like to move freely into the audience, where appropriate, especially during longer presentations and workshops.
  3. Multiple Presentations – Multiple presentations to the same audience are possible; however it will be necessary to work out any redundancies.  I can make recommendations on how to accomplish this.
  4. Audience Technical Background – These are not technical presentations; only a user-level familiarity with the Internet and computing is suggested.  Since the presentations tend to be strategic in nature, a sense of the organization as a whole, as well as a good understanding of the business is helpful.
  5. Length – Each presentation runs about 60-90 minutes, not including Q&A.  The material can be edited for shorter presentations, and combined for longer presentations.
  6. Language – All presentations are delivered in English.  However, I have experience in simultaneous translation.
  7. Webcasts – Each presentation can be customized for webcasts.  I have experience with Centra, Interwise, Elluminate, Breeze and Webex systems.
  8. Workshops – Workshops generally include more content, greater opportunities for discussion and short exercises.  For in-tact groups, there is the option to include specific team (large or small group) exercises that focus on real organizational problems or issues, and generate actionable recommendations.
  9. AV Requirements – I use my own laptop and wireless mouse.  There are extensive presentation slides designed in PowerPoint; many are animated.  Please provide PC projection and a wireless lavaliere microphone (for large audiences).  I move around a lot and try to be more intimate with the audience.  I do not use a podium.
  10. Recordings -- Please advise in advance if you plan to audio or videotape a presentation.
  11. Handouts – Because I use extensive PowerPoint slides, it is often helpful (but not required) for the audience to have a handout package, to be distributed concurrently with the presentation, or afterward.  Due to copyright restrictions, most, but not all slides are included in the handout.  In most cases, I can provide an electronic master copy of the handout, usually in Adobe .pdf file format (requires free Adobe Acrobat reader) for reproduction purposes prior to the presentation.  These materials are for educational purposes only and cannot be used in other business activities, reproduced in any medium (including inter/intranets), or resold without permission.
  12. Book Signings -- Although I do not sell my books at events, I am happy to sign books for attendees.  Clients may order books for sale or for participant gifts/registration incentive (discounts may be available).
